Built in a spectacular location on a 49-meter-high cliff above the sea, the historic center is home to countless monuments, buildings and churches. However, a real highlight and the main attraction is the tiny alley Klancic! It is one of the narrowest alleys in the world and therefore an absolute unique thing to see on the island.
The rich history of Vrbnik dates back to 1100, when the town had first been mentioned in documents, and it is historically also known as the cradle of Slavic-Glagolitic writings. Formerly a small fishing village, Vrbnik has become a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The Old Town of Vrbnik
Probably one of the most beautiful attractions of Vrbnik is the historic old town, which essentially shapes the coastal panorama of the region. Even though it is already very impressive when you look at it from afar, you should definitely have seen the center of the coastal town. During a tour of the center, you will embark on some kind of time travel, exploring a labyrinth of old alleys with stone houses and discovering fabulous viewpoints of the coast. Moreover, in the old town there are really fine delicatessen stores where you can try regional specialties such as the famous white wine Zlahtina.
Interesting are also the many churches and museums. Especially recommended is the library in the former prince’s house, where one is amazed by valuable paintings as well as by records and ancient newspapers. In addition, there is a Renaissance book printing house and a small museum of local history in the old town. A really worth seeing attraction is the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with its freestanding Renaissance church tower from Venetian times, which can be seen from far away.
Klancic Alley
The Klancic Alley is definitely the most famous place to visit in Vrbnik! It is somewhat hidden in the historical center and should not be missed on any tour of the town. Its name means “bottleneck” and really, many visitors can only get through the alley with a tucked stomach or walking sideways. With a width of only 40 cm, this small street belongs to the absolutely narrowest alleys in the world and is therefore a truly unique attraction on the island.
The Beaches in Vrbnik
The many great beaches in Vrbnik make the resort a fabulous vacation destination on the island of Krk! Along the rugged coastline, there are many pretty swimming spots and true dream bays. Most of the beaches are fine pebble beaches, but there is also a real sandy beach and beautiful natural bays to discover!
Beach Zgribnica
Beach Zgribnica is located directly in the center and is the main beach of the resort. Here you can expect a picturesque pebble bay, where especially fantastic turquoise sea colors, the top equipment and cleanliness impress tourists. On the side of the bay, concrete plateaus and stone areas have been created, which are ideal to sunbathe and relax. Also really fabulous are the high rock cliffs nearby, where you can watch brave cliff jumpers.
Tip: A little above the bay is the Hotel Vinotel Gospoja, a wonderful 4-star hotel with perfect proximity to the sea and the old town of Vrbnik!
Beach Kozica
The wonderful Beach Kozica, also known as Silent Beach, is a real dream bay! You can reach it from the old town by a short walk along the picturesque coast, passing a pretty pine forest. What is unique about this beach is the particularly quiet ambience and the idyll that surrounds this natural bay. The sea with its almost kitschy turquoise water colors is wonderfully clear on this stretch of coast and is also perfect for snorkeling.
Tip: The APARTMAN ČUBRANIĆ is not far from Kozika beach, and the old town can also be reached from here via a short walk.
Sandy Beach Sveti Marak
If you love sandy beaches, you should definitely visit Plaza Sveti Marak. This beautiful fine sandy beach is located only 6 kilometers from Vrbnik and enchants as an absolute family beach. The sea also slopes shallowly, which provides optimal conditions, especially for small children but also non-swimmers. Beautiful and absolutely idyllic is the peninsula Sveti Marak behind it, where you will encounter a small, interesting church ruin.
Tip: About 900 meters away from the sandy beach Sveti Marak is the Apartma Krčine, where especially the great facilities, cleanliness and quiet location convince!
Beach Potovsce
The Plaza Potovsce is a true dream beach and, moreover, for many it is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Krk. Surrounded by untouched nature and embedded in a beautiful coastal landscape, already the 2-kilometer-long approach via the gravel road is an experience in itself. Once you arrive at the beach, you will enjoy a picturesque pebble bay, breathtaking sea colors, crystal clear water and a truly Mediterranean ambience. Shady places are rather rare, but in the high season, sun umbrellas and sunbeds are offered for rent.
Excursions from Vrbnik
