General information about Vodice

Vodice, a town of approximately 8,800 inhabitants, is located in the Dalmatia region, about 3 kilometers from Tribunj and 10 kilometers from Sibenik. This holiday pearl has been chosen several times as one of the most popular coastal towns in Dalmatia. Translated, Vodice means “little water”, a name that dates back to the Middle Ages when the coastal town with its springs supplied the surrounding area with water. The town was first mentioned with the construction of the church of St. Križ in 1402 and even today you can discover several historical attractions in the charming old town.

The tourist center is the old town together with the marina, and a promenade about 4 kilometers long connects the town center with the paradisiacal beaches of the various holiday settlements. Especially in summer there is a lot going on here: festivals take place, street artists provide entertainment, restaurants spoil their guests with Dalmatian cuisine and the beach clubs invite to party. Nevertheless, you can still find a few quiet spots in Vodice, a little away from the hustle and bustle.

Best things to do in Vodice

There is a variety of unforgettable things to do on a holiday in Vodice. Among the absolute best attractions is the romantic old town with its many churches and stone alleys, the picturesque long waterfront promenade, the magnificent marina and of course the many fantastic beaches. But the surrounding area is also really worth seeing and has many exciting day trip destinations in store. We have summarized the most beautiful things to do in Vodice at a glance:

The Old Town of Vodice

One of the most important attractions in Vodice is the romantic old town. It forms the tourist center in summer and is, therefore, the heart of the holiday resort. The location directly on the small romantic fishing harbor is particularly stunning – a breathtakingly beautiful panorama that can be found on countless postcards! Walking through the small stone alleys, you will discover some interesting sights and the many pretty squares with tavernas make you want to stay.

One of the most beautiful attractions is certainly the imposing baroque parish church of Svetog Kriza built in 1746, which can be seen from afar and is very impressive both from the outside and the inside. Other historically significant buildings are the Coric tower from 1646 and the Sveti Kriz church.

The Promenade

The picturesque promenade of Vodice is another highlight and a popular meeting point in the holiday resort. It runs along the coast for about 4 kilometers from the holiday settlement of Srima to the neighboring village of Tribunj and connects all the beautiful beaches with each other. While strolling or jogging, you can enjoy fabulous views of the old town, the harbor and the magnificent coastal panorama. Along the way, there are always wonderful bathing bays that tempt you to take a dip into the cool water and the cozy café-bars and restaurants along the way spoil their guests with regional specialties.

The Marina

The beautiful marina of Vodice is located directly in the center with a view of the old town and gives the holiday resort a sophisticated flair. The marina has 380 moorings and has even been awarded the “Blue Flag”. On top of that, the port received the award as one of the best marinas on the central Adriatic in 2017. Thanks to its optimal location, Vodice is a popular starting point for sailing trips and also for boat excursions to the offshore island world. For example, excursions to the island of Prvic, the nearby Kornati National Park, the Telascica Nature Park and the Krka National Park start here.

Male Vrulje (Plaza Hangar)

Male Vrulje, also known as Plaza Hangar, is the main beach of Vodice. It is located below the harbor and can be reached by a short walk from the center. While bathing, you can enjoy a pebble beach that is about 500 meters long and has been laid out as a kind of lagoon, where concrete sunbathing areas are just perfect to sunbathe. The old pine trees are also fantastic, providing cool shade in summer and creating a Mediterranean backdrop. Behind the beach, on the promenade, you’ll find a few cafés and cool beach clubs where you’ll meet a rather young crowd.

Tip: The futuristic Hotel Olympia Sky is a real eye-catcher on Male Vrulje beach. This 4-star hotel has a cool sky bar and a great infinity pool on the 9th floor!

One of the most popular and at the same time most beautiful beaches is Plava Plaza. The so-called Blue Beach fascinates above all with its picturesque sea colors and the grandiose ambience. Here you can enjoy a fine pebble beach that even turns into a sandy beach in the sea. Also really unique are the white concrete plateaus directly in the sea, which gives this dream beach a very special backdrop. Thanks to its cleanliness, fabulous facilities and sea quality, this bathing beach has already been awarded the Blue Flag. The many small cafés and restaurants that line Plava Plaza are also lovely and worth a try!

Tip: A few minutes’ walk from the beach are the fabulous  Adria Sun Apartments in a quiet location with a beautiful view of the sea.
