Along the lake there are always cozy benches, nice cafes to stop and of course to enjoy a unique atmosphere. The distance around the lake is 6 kilometres.

Tip: Combine the walk on Lake Bled with a leisurely coffee break and treat yourself to an original Bled cream cake, a must eat in Slovenia and of course when visiting Bled!

The landmark of Bled is the pretty church island called Blejski Otok, or mostly just named as Bled Island. There you will find the Church of the Assumption, a baroque church from the 17th century. But before you have to climb 99 stone steps. The Bleder tradition is that the groom carries the bride up all these steps! If you feel like getting higher then you should also visit the bell tower and enjoys a scenic view of Lake Bled. In any case, don`t forget to ring the bell, the wish bell of Bled. According to a legend it’s said that ringing this bell and will makes a wish come true.

A boat trip on Lake Bled is a real holiday highlight and therefore you should not miss this beautiful experience. On a trip with the traditional wooden boats, the so called Plentna boats, you have the opportunity to visit the island and the lovely church. The price for the boat trip is 14, – Euro for the ride and 6, – Euro for the entrance to the island.

Tip: What we even loved more: Another possibility for getting around on the lake Bled is by rowboat. We recommend to rent the rowboat at the Pension Pletna boat rental (15,- per hour) . Rowing the Lake Bled can be really romantic and it is one of the best things to do in Bled.

Best viewpoints and views of Lake Bled

Around the lake there are a variety of magnificent viewpoints. In addition to the already described overlook at the Bled Castle, you will find some other good views to Lake Bled. One of the best is the viewpoint at Café Belvedere. This place is definitely worth a visit, because here you can enjoy the views with a delicious traditional Bled cream cake.

If you love hiking, you should head to the Ojstrica Viewpoint and Mala Osojnica Viewpoint (on the circular route no. 6). From here you have a fantastic view and probably the most famous view of Lake Bled.

Hike to Mala Osojnica Viewpoint

The most beautiful view of Lake Bled is definitely from the Mala Osojnica Viewpoint. The panorama of the lake, the church and the mountain views here are really overwhelming. For the hike to the popular vantage point, you should plan around 30 – 40 minutes walking time. We recommend good shoes, because the way is quite steep, and you have to climb at the end 80 metal steps. Who has a certain basic fitness, should not miss this highlight in Bled!

Tip: The hike to the Ojstrica is a bit shorter. You will reach this lookout in about 20 minutes walk.
