General information about Pirovac

Pirovac is a charming little coastal town in northern Dalmatia with a population of about 1,900. It is located about 50 kilometers from Zadar and 25 kilometers from Sibenik. The centerpiece and at the same time the most important attraction is the historic old town, whose origins go back to the Middle Ages and where you can still discover evidence of that time today. The village was first mentioned in 1298 as “Zlosela” and it was only at the beginning of the 20th century that the coastal town was given the name Pirovac. Already in Roman times, the area of Pirovac was known, especially for its healing mud. Today, the fishing village is a popular destination for holidaymakers and nautical enthusiasts.

Another special feature is the protected location in the 12-kilometer long so-called Pirovac Bay. Especially people who love swimming are pleased, because the sea here is up to 4 degrees warmer than the average of the Adriatic Sea, and also the climate is mild and pleasant all year round. In addition, there are fabulous opportunities to go on excursions around Pirovac. The Kornati Islands, the Krka Waterfalls, Lake Vrana, the old town of Zadar, Primosten and of course Sibenik are just a few of the highlights of this region!

The most important attractions of Pirovac are definitely the small old town with its harbor, the romantic waterfront promenade, Lake Vrana in the hinterland and, not to forget, the amazing beaches in Pirovac. Here is a summary of the most beautiful places of the holiday resort at a glance:

The Old Town of Pirovac

The beautiful old town forms the tourist center and is also the most important attraction in Pirovac. This idyllic town center is situated in a dreamlike location directly overlooking the harbor and the old Dalmatian townhouses with their cozy cafés create an exceptionally quaint flair. A stroll through the town reveals a number of historic buildings that date back to the Middle Ages. Among the most important sights of Pirovac are the parish church of St. Juraj from the 15th century and the remains of the town wall from the 16th century. The old town gate “Vrata sela”, a popular photo motif and one of the town’s landmarks, is also worth a visit!

The promenade of Pirovac, which leads from the old town along the coast and connects the beautiful beaches of the holiday resort, is also charming. In the town center and along the promenade there are plenty of small restaurants, authentic konabas and cafés that invite you to linger in a romantic atmosphere.

The Harbor

Here is a summary of the most beautiful beaches in Pirovac:

Lolic Beach

One of the most beautiful beaches in Pirovac is definitely Lolic Beach. This beautiful long bay is the main beach of the resort and attracts visitors with its picturesque scenery. While bathing, you can enjoy a shallowly sloping pebble beach, which is also ideal for families with children. The sea is pleasantly warm, so the little ones can splash around in the sea as much as they like. In summer, a water bouncy castle, a pedal boat rental and kayaking provide activities for young and old alike!

Behind the bay is a small holiday settlement with privately run apartments. The modern apartments of Villa Gambera are highly recommended. From this spot you can reach the various beaches of the resort in no time.

Starine Beach

Another popular beach is Plaza Starine. This bay is close to the town center and the popular main beach Lolic is right next to it. Especially on the upper section, the atmosphere is a little quieter and the view of the picturesque bay is also breathtakingly beautiful. The many pine trees provide a wonderful fragrance and cool shade on hot summer days. The sea slopes shallowly on this beach and for people who experience difficulties walking, a concrete ramp has been built into the sea. The café-bar directly on beach Starine is also cozy and offers the necessary refreshments during a wonderful day of swimming.
