From Bangkok to Koh Phangan | Bus + Ferry

A bus ride is a popular and at the same time a cheap option to travel from Bangkok to Koh Phangan. This includes trips by night bus, but also trips during the day. Countless bus companies, both private and public, take you from the Thai capital to the south of the country, mostly directly to the Donsak ferry port. From there, you will travel by ferry to Thong Sala, which is the main ferry port on Koh Phangan

The easiest way to organize this trip is with a combo-ticket: Some ferry companies, such as Lomprayah or Raja Ferry offer package deals, which include the bus trip from Bangkok to Pier Don Sak and the ticket for the ferry. Depending on traffic and the tour operator, you can reach your destination in 10–17 hours.

From Bangkok to Koh Phangan | Flight

The popular holiday island Koh Phangan does not have its own airport, but still, the option to fly from Bangkok to southern Thailand is the fastest and most popular. In around 1.5 hours you can get to the neighboring island of Koh Samui or to Surat Thani on the mainland relatively quickly by plane. Afterwards, you will have to continue by ferry to Koh Phangan.

->Flight to Surat Thani & Bus + Ferry to Koh Phangan

Surat Thani is located on the mainland, west of the resort island, and is the cheapest option to get to Koh Phangan by flight from Bangkok. If you book early enough, you can already find flight deals starting from 25 euros! After the flight, a bus from Surat Thani takes around 1.5 hours to the ferry port Donsak. Then, the ferry continues to Koh Phangan, where you will arrive at Thong Sala Pier after around 2 hours.

Option 2

->Flight to Koh Samui & Ferry to Koh Phangan

A flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui is definitely the quickest way to get to Koh Phangan. Koh Samui is located around 15 kilometers from the holiday island and has the closest airport to Koh Phangan. Only Bangkok Airlines flies from Bangkok to Koh Samui and due to their monopoly position, you will have to expect more expensive ticket prices (100, – to 300, -). To get the cheaper prices, you will have to book in advance as early as possible. Good flight deals can often be found online.

After landing, the taxi continues from Koh Samui airport to the ferry terminal. From there, the ferry will take you to Koh Phangan. In addition to the regular option by ferry, speedboat transfers are also available.

From Bangkok to Koh Phangan | Train + Bus + Ferry

Another fantastic way to travel to southern Thailand is by train from Bangkok. Although you cannot get directly to the island of Koh Phangan by train, it still covers a large part of the route on the mainland, which means you can reach Chumporn or Surat Thani.

Several daily southbound trains depart from Hua Lamphong Central Station. Many choose the comfortable night train and thus save a night in the hotel, then continue by bus or minibus to the Donsak ferry port and go ahead by boat to Koh Phangan.
