Moreover, with a rental car, you can reach the most beautiful beaches and places in no time.

Karavostasis

The fishing village of Karavostasis is a popular choice for a beach vacation on Folegandros. The ferry docks at the port, and thanks to its location, it is a perfect starting point for an excursion on the island. We arrived here by ferry ourselves, and it’s a genuinely easy walk from the port to most of the accommodations. Embedded in an enchanting landscape, with the whitewashed houses and the two stunning beaches, a true vacation paradise awaits you. Really charming is also the small center, where taverns, restaurants and colorfully decorated cafés spoil their guests with culinary delights overlooking the sea. A bus connects Karavostasis with the Chora in the inland. In addition, around the port there are several car rentals and quad rentals, perfect if you want to get to know the island.

In Karavostasis you will find insanely great accommodations, there are gorgeous hotels, chic apartments and privately run guesthouses. Fabulous is that you can optimally combine beach and sightseeing. This place is also a good tip for families with children.

Ano Meria

The village of Ano Meria is a real insider tip, especially if you want to get to know Folegandros from its most authentic side. We stayed in Ano Meria and it was exactly the kind of quiet we were looking for, no traffic noise, just the occasional rooster in the morning. The small rustic village is located on a plateau with a fantastic view over the deep blue sea and enchants with a unique idyll. Many of the accommodations in the village are vacation apartments or small guesthouses. Most of them have a terrace from which you can admire the magical sunrises of the island. The atmosphere is really unique, very quiet and optimal if you want to decelerate. In the village there is a traditional bakery, a small supermarket and a few highly recommended taverns. The attractions and beaches in the area are best reached by rental car or quad bike.

Ano Meria is the perfect place to stay in Folegandros for connoisseurs, for those seeking peace and quiet and for couples. You can find really good accommodations at a reasonable price. The ambience is very authentic, and even in the high season it is always quiet! Great is also the proximity to the Chora, which you can also reach by public bus.

Agali Bay

Staying at Agali Bay is a beautiful option for a beach vacation on Folegandros. It is located on the west coast of the island, about 4 kilometers from the capital Chora. Simply unique is the ambience, where the white houses in the small village conjure up an enchanting contrast to the turquoise blue sea. Many of the hotels and accommodations here are located directly on the sea. For a vacation, there are several beaches in the area. The most spectacular is the eponymous Paralia Agali, right in the village, which delights with wonderful white sand and turquoise sea colors. The bay is protected from wind and waves, which families with children will appreciate.

In the small Agali bay there are only a few accommodations! Most of them are small boutique hotels, guesthouses or chic apartments. The area is especially recommended for couples, those seeking peace and quiet, and for all those who would love to stay on one of the most beautiful beaches on Folegandros.

Conclusion: Where You Should Stay in Folegandros

We stayed in Ano Meria ourselves, and if you’re after real quiet, it’s hard to beat. No cars driving through at night, no bars, just a bakery, a small supermarket and a view that makes the sunrise worth getting up for. The tradeoff is that you’ll want a rental car or quad bike to reach the beaches and get into Chora.

If you’d rather walk everywhere and don’t mind more people around, Chora is the better base, you’re right in the middle of the island’s most beautiful town, and everything is close by. Traveling with kids or want easy ferry access, Karavostasis makes the most sense, it’s flat, walkable, and close to the port. Agali Bay is worth it if the beach is your main priority, just don’t expect much beyond the one bay itself.
